Twitter Changed My Life – Episode #2

Posted on 26 January 2010 by Shane Mac

What if you could multiply what I just said 10, 20, or even 100 times? That’s how it can change lives. #incredible

People sometimes ask what makes me an expert? I tell them nothing. I’m just a guy who thinks a single conversation or story can help people find career paths that they didn’t know existed. I strive to help people ask the right questions and think about things a little differently. Life and Careers are about asking the right questions and meeting the right people. • Great job and like the format. Real Life. Real Time. Real Simple. Great energy as well. Just like we discussed the other night. Asset-Based Thinking. Look for the assets in yourself, relationships and situations. Keep up the great work.

  • Hank, thanks for the comment. I am just building stories and real life situations to share with colleges across the country. Can't wait to get the speaking rolling! Let's take this down to USC! :)
  • I groaned about having to create a Twitter account for one of my classes...but you made me see the "light" in the way my profs didn't! I am going to start using my account again! Do you ever find it hard to manage all your social networks? Maybe that could be another video or article...
  • Hey Caitlin,
Thanks for the comment. As for your question, I actually have a post coming next week about the program Gist. http://www.gist.com. It pretty much kicks ass and can help anyone leverage technology to better know and organize all of their contacts. (It's Free right now too).

The Founder of Gist will be doing a video for it soon. Side note, I have a couple of shows this weekend in Ballard and Madison Park. Will you be around?
  • PS thanks for the info about Gist, I'll bookmark it so I can look into it when I get a second!
  • As of right now I am planning on going to the Madison Park show, looking forward to it!!
  • Shane, you show that you eat it, breathe it and live - Social Networking and especially Twitter. Great insight of a complex process simplified. Love it and I am looking forward to work together with you you on other projects.
VJ - (a.k.a. VJnator a.k.a. the Social Media Buzzer)
  • Thanks VJ,
Look forward to working together more as well... :)

I love it, you gave me a new way to express what I have been communicating on a local level to offline business owners is a new fun and refreshing way, that's the power of twitter giggle and how we met-shazam
  • Shazzammmmerssssssss is right! Whoot!
  • Really dig the format and delivery of the show. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. Something I try to think about constantly is who I can connect. When I meet new people on twitter I ask: "What kind of people are you looking to connect with" so I can pass on my suggestions. How do you connect others?
  • thanks man. I think it is also about being the 'connector.' I try to connect the right people that I feel could help each other...

    Keep it real man!
  • Shane,

Really great explanation of how twitter works and the benefits of engagement. Thanks for doing this...I will use this as a tool for the "skeptics" I meet and for people looking to grow their business. You explained it really well!

I really like the visual explanation it really helps fast forward your understanding of the Twitter experience for those who use it well.

    @patrickantrim

  • Thanks Patrick. There are always all of those other points that when I finished the video I went "O damn, forgot that," but that just means more videos.
  • tmcs2010
    Great presentation Shane!
  • What I took away. RT = Respect, @ replies = Thanks, and Twitter is stalking (in a very very good, productive, profitable way). Nice video man. Let's chat soon - whatever I gotta do to get on the "Squab Approved" list that's starting at me over on the right...
  • Haha, I'm a Stalker! It is a crazy tool and an even crazier story, but I felt it was one that needed shared...

You are Squab Approved... (Thought you were already)
  • Gracias! - Nothing wrong with being a stalker (in the way we mean it) - sometimes that's the only way to get ahead.
