Gist your way to a job. – Episode #4

Posted on 15 February 2010 by Shane Mac

Right now you need to go sign up for Gist. http://www.gist.com. If you don’t know where to start then make sure you reach out to the gist team or sign up for an upcoming webinar and learn how to use the tool better. It is business, careers, and life wrapped inside of a super powerful and IMHO bad ass tool that I think can help anyone do better business or find better careers.

Remember that Gist doesn’t replace Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, and other social tools, Gist makes them all better and worthwhile. Gist is how you say hello while twitter is just the doorway. It is what you say when you walk through it that matters. Relationships are life and is what Mr. Gary Vee is trying to let everyone know.

Here are the people at Gist who you may want to follow.

The Gist account – @gist

T.A. McCann – @tamccann

Robert Pease@RobertatGist

Greg Meyer – @GregAtGist

Jennifer Pitts@jlpitts

After you sign up for Gist and start talking to the people who matter, watch my other video post on setting up a charity: water page so you will have something to talk about when you land that interview and get you a real job!

What makes me an expert? Nothing. I am just a guy who enjoys helping people find career paths that they didn’t know existed. I travel around speaking to colleges and trying to help students look at this career game a little differently. I strive to help people ask questions and find new ways to play the game. Life and Careers are about asking the right questions. Please ask anything, or subscribe to the The Squab feed via RSS or Email to receive notifications of new posts.

I like gist, but their members sections user experience makes it a confusing to use the service.

The dashboard seems way too much crowded and that is one of the reasons I spent a couple of seconds using gist and then moved away. I got myself a account about 2 months ago.

Now that you recommend it, I will re look the service. They should have a guided tour to help new users.
  • Hey there man,

Thanks for your comment! I totally am in agreement with you and the power needs some simplicity added to it so anyone can use it... Want to hear something funny?

I am heading to Gist to be the Marketing Manager and try and tackle the exact problem that you have mentioned. I start tomorrow and I am stoked to be on board. I would love to hear more feedback and talk with you sometime if you want...

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what I can do to help.

I just re read my comment. I need to improve my grammar :)

I will write down a post about what I think and how Gist can do better some time soon and mail you the link. Would love to talk further after the post.

Congrats on being part of Gist. :)
  • Shane,

I'm really glad you posted this. I shared it with some of my bschool friends who are still looking for jobs. I've been intrigued by Gist ever since you told me about it. I still need to sign up for my own invite :). You're headed for great things.
  • Why haven't you done it yet? If I told you Gist could change your life would you go sign up right now? :)... It just might.

Stowe Boyd said it best but he missed a big piece of it. He said, "I am made better by the sum of my connections and so are my connections," but what happens when you have an astronomical number of connections? You have to have relevance. That's Gist.

Compare Facebook and Twitter and say who do I REALLY want to see everyday? It is not about having list and segmenting people, it is about seeing who matters the most to you more than others.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • I like, thanks for this a short video, it shows people that relationships still matter, and bloggers are people just like us.
  • The tool can really help you build relationships online and find those who matter. If you have any questions let me know..... Thanks for the comment...
